Paratroopers Static Line Jump From C-17

Paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division perform static line jumps from C-17 Globemaster III aircraft over Sicily Drop Zone at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Who are Paratroopers?

A paratrooper is a qualified military parachutist who serves as part of an airborne unit. During World War II, military parachutists (troops) and parachutes were used on a wide scale for troop distribution and transportation for the first time.

What is static line jumping?

SKYDIVING ON A STEADY LINE. Consider the Static Line Hop for those who want to solo jump on their first day. The hop itself is a straightforward poised departure from the aircraft. A “static line” attached to the plane triggers the deployment of the main parachute as the skydiver slips away from the plane.

Somebody said ‘ Old men start wars and young men line up to die’ that’s what this reminds me of.

Imagine how crazy that looks, then remember D-day when those men did this at night while being fired at and landing in hostile territory. I don’t think any of us can fathom that. Immense respect to that generation.
